As SharePoint 2016 is on its way, Microsoft hints it may be possible to migrate directly from SharePoint 2010 – i.e. without upgrading to SharePoint 2013 in the process. Benjamin Niaulin (Sharegate) noticed on his blog the following tweet of Microsoft’s Senior Product Marketing Manager Bill Baer:
#SharePoint question…if you could N-2 upgrade would you? I.e. 2010 > 2016 without stopping at 2013 first…

The response was very positive, given that many companies still use SharePoint 2010, with some of them just finished implementing it. Direct upgrade 2010–>2016 is still not confirmed by Microsoft, but it would be a very convenient feature for SharePoint admins who would like to embrace latest cloud and hybrid developments.
